What is Web 2.0? |
| |
An operating principle of web technologies that allow users to create, modify and delete content that is viewable by other users. Most common web 2.0 technologies are wikis, blogs, podcasts, personal videos and personal websites. The concept also applies to things like avatars in online gaming. |

What is a blog? |
| |
A blog (short for web log) is an online journal that an individual, group or corporate entity maintains. This journal is most often meant for public consumption. Blogs are hosted on web-servers. Several public blog hosting sites such as Blogger (www.blogger.com), Windows Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com), Live Journal (www.livejournal.com), etc. are available to anyone wanting to create his / her own blog. Blogs may be published on other web-servers as well. |

How does web2rank compute the rank of a blog? |
| |
When a blogger displays the preview RankImage™ in his blog, it enables web2rank to count unique visitors to that blog. We also record which geographic locale the user is visiting from. Periodically, web2rank servers digest the visit stats to compute which blog is more popular than others in a given set of parameters (such as type of content (blog, podcast, etc.), topic of the blog, geographic locale of the visitor, time period, etc.) In the end, we have an ordinal rank for each blog that we are tracking. |
|
|
| 5. |
How do I know the rank displayed in the RankImage™ is accurate (i.e. How do I know the blogger hasn't simply copy-pasted it from a more popular blogger) |
| |
There are two ways to find out: Firstly, the RankImage™ is uniquely generated for each blog. It has the name of the blog imprinted on it and so cannot be copied without having to be touched up. If a blogger has touched up the RankImage™ manually, the results won't look as good as the original. Secondly, you can always click on the preview RankImage™ which is embedded in the blog to see the detailed RankImage™. The detailed RankImage™ is rendered from the web2rankT site and has more details about the blogger and the blog, which can't be spoofed. |

How does web2rank make money? |
| |
We are a for-profit business, but haven't yet gotten to the money making part yet. We will start online advertising soon. If you are a prospective advertiser, please contact sales@web2rank.com. Rest assured, our revenue generation activity will not have an impact on the integrity of our search results. |

|
| 8. |
How are the blogger search results ordered? |
| |
Blogger search results are displayed in descending order starting with the top-ranked blogger matching the search query first. You may change the ordering by clicking on "Sort alphabetically" in the search results. |

How does web2rank know which city I live in? |
| |
When your browser requests any web-server, it automatically sends the IP address from which it is visiting. web2rank uses publicly available databases to look up the city of origin from the IP address. In some cases this may be incorrect due to the limitations of such databases or due to changes made by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). web2rank does not obtain information that is finer-grained than city or town of the IP address and does not disclose such information to other users / parties. Refer to our Privacy Policy for more details. |

The slider on the RankImage™ shows geographic information that is not pertinent to me. How can I get information relative to where I live? |
| |
Due to ISP practices (such as channeling browser traffic through proxies) or due to incorrect IP address information in the publicly available databases, web2rank may sometimes think you are visiting from one geographic location whereas your location may be completely different. web2rank will soon have a feature for letting you choose your geographic locale of interest. Stay tuned. |

Why should I sign up with web2rank? |
| |
Help make searching Web 2 content easier for one. Participate in building a comprehensive topic directory for blogs. Finally, help users find your blogs more easily. |
|
|
| 14. |
Would bloggers who signed up before me have an advantage over me? |
| |
Not in the long-term. In the short-term though, as the number of blogs in a particular category may be small, it will cause bloggers who have signed up earlier to have slight advantage. |
|
|
| 15. |
I have inserted the HTML for the preview RankImage™ in my blog, but I don't see my blog's rank yet. |
| |
web2rank servers periodically compute the rank based on user visit statistics received in a given time period. It may take up to 24 hours for your blog's rank to appear. |
|
|
| 16. |
The URL that I embed in my blog does not indicate anything about my blog. How does web2rank know which RankImage™ to display? |
| |
When the browser requests the image from web2rank, it indicates the referrer URL (known as REFERER in HTTP terms). We infer the blog that is being referred to by inspecting the value of the REFERER HTTP parameter. |
